​​This Senior Software Engineer serves as both a technical leader and requirements/tasking execution lead for a Prime engineering contract. In addition to serving as the senior technical lead for the contract, this position is expected to foster employee development, mentor technical staff, contribute to workforce planning initiatives, and help build a high-performing engineering organization capable of sustaining long-term program growth and success. The role combines advanced technical engineering responsibilities with oversight of team performance, resource management, and direct engagement with Government stakeholders.​ 

Primary Duties: 
• Lead research, design, development, and enhancement of complex software/hardware/firmware
  systems. 
• Integrate hardware and software systems in coordination with engineering teams. 
• Serve as the primary interface and point of contact with Government technical representatives on all technical and schedule matters. 
• Oversee Contractor execution (including subcontractors) of contract requirements and ensure
  successful delivery of mission critical capabilities. 
• Lead and coordinate a multidisciplinary team of software, hardware, firmware, and test engineers. 
• Analyze user needs and lead development of robust software/hardware/firmware solutions using
  principles of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis. 
• Lead the design, development, testing, and for mission critical applications. 
• Lead the update or enhancement of existing software/hardware/firmware capabilities to improve
  performance, reliability, and maintainability. 
• Promote collaboration across engineering disciplines to deliver integrated solutions. 
• Lead the support Combat Identification (CID) system development, programming, and
  enhancement. 
• Mentor and develop engineers through coaching, technical guidance, and career development
  planning. 
• Foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture focused on accountability, continuous
  improvement, and technical excellence. 
• Support recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and workforce development efforts. 
• Identify and cultivate future technical leaders within the organization. 
• Assist Engineering Management with succession planning and staffing strategies. 
• Promote knowledge transfer and development of organizational capabilities across engineering
  disciplines. 
• Contribute to employee performance evaluations and development planning. 
• Establish priorities, assign work, and monitor team performance to ensure schedule and technical
  objectives are achieved. 
• Serve as primary interface to Government technical and program leadership, providing strategic
  guidance and status on technical, schedule, cost, and risk management matters. 
• Oversee Contractor execution of contract requirements and ensure alignment with program
  objectives. 
• Conduct workload planning and resource forecasting to support program execution. 
• Lead execution of complex tasks and high visibility, mission critical program activities. 
• Oversee and mentor less senior staff; ensure quality and compliance across all assigned work.​ 

Skills and Qualifications: 
• Ability to analyze user needs and develop software/hardware/firmware solutions using advanced engineering and mathematical techniques. 
• Ability to update, enhance, and maintain complex software/hardware/firmware systems. 
• Ability to integrate hardware and software systems and develop detailed specifications. 
• Demonstrated experience applying and leading teams in the following core capabilities:
o Embedded systems architecture, design, and development 
o Agile software development using Scrum practices 
o Software development and collaboration tools, including Bitbucket, Jira, Confluence, and Bamboo 
o Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) 
• Mentor and develop engineers through coaching, technical guidance, and career development
  planning. 
• Foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture focused on accountability, continuous
  improvement, and technical excellence. 
• Support recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and workforce development efforts. 
• Identify and cultivate future technical leaders within the organization. 
• Assist Engineering Management with succession planning and staffing strategies. 
• Promote knowledge transfer and development of organizational capabilities across engineering
  disciplines. 
• Contribute to employee performance evaluations and development planning. 
• Ability to perform all functional duties independently. 
• Ability to lead complex technical tasks and mission critical program activities. 
• Ability to oversee the efforts of less senior staff and manage all staff assigned to specific jobs. 
• Ability to act as the overall contract technical lead (hardware, software, firmware, and testing) and
  primary Government interface. 
• Strong customer relations, analytics, and documentation skills. 
• Self-starter with strong work ethic and commitment to quality. 
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office. 
• Ability to work in a fast paced, team-oriented environment.

Education and Experience: 
• Master’s degree in technical discipline (no substitutions). Software Engineering or Systems
  Engineering preferred. 
• Minimum of 10 years of experience, including: 
o At least 6 years in software development or programming of Combat Identification (CID) and/or C4ISR systems. 
o Minimum 3-5 years leading engineering teams or supervising technical personnel. Experience
  leading cross-functional engineering teams preferred. 
o At least 2 years as a Program Manager within DoW environment.​ 

Clearance: 

This position is subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. In order to complete the requirements for government security clearance investigation you must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to complete the full background investigation. This position requires an Active ​Secret​ Security Clearance. 

Compensation:  

While skills, education, and experience are key factors, they are not the sole determinants of salary. Other determining factors include but are not limited to location, contract budgets and requirements, and government labor category guidelines. The estimated salary range for this position is ​$150,000​ to ​$175,000​. KAIROS also provides a comprehensive benefits package as additional employee compensation.
